The Philadelphia 76ers will take any win they can get against the Orlando Magic, even an ugly one.
Allen Iverson scored 20 points, including a free throw with 2.9 seconds left, leading the Sixers to a 99-98 victory over the Magic on Friday night.
Philadelphia had lost nine of its last 10 against the Magic, including two in a row this season.
"I was so mad at halftime with the way they played the last few minutes, but they responded,'' Sixers coach Larry Brown said. "I'm frustrated with what they did at the end of the game, but I'm pleased to get a win.''
Derrick Coleman added a season-high 22 points and Eric Snow had 17, including four free throws in the final minute for Philadelphia, which has won two straight since the All-Star break.
Tracy McGrady had 37 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer with 8.7 seconds left, and Mike Miller added a season-high 33 for Orlando.
The Magic have lost seven of nine.
"All of the losses are tough,'' McGrady said. "This is a loss that really hurts because this is a team we thought we could come in and get a win.''
After McGrady's 3 over Aaron McKie tied it at 98, Iverson was fouled by Darrell Armstrong as he drove to the basket.
Iverson hit his first free throw, but missed the second. Miller got the rebound, but threw the ball out of bounds while trying to pass it.
Iverson asked Brown whether he should purposely miss the second attempt, but tried to make it after a discussion with the coaches.
"I was trying not to settle for a jump shot,'' Iverson said. "I wanted to get a layup and I got fouled.''
Iverson's right foot was bothering him after the game, but it didn't appear too serious.
McGrady, the NBA's leading scorer, has at least 30 points in 11 of his last 13 games. McGrady, among the first four players chosen Thursday for the 2004 U.S. Olympic team, shot 11-for-26, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
Miller, coming off a four-point performance in Thursday night's 98-88 loss at Detroit, was 13-for-21, including 5-for-8 from beyond the arc.
"Every loss is frustrating,'' Miller said. "It's hard to put one of these behind us.''
Orlando, which trailed most of the fourth quarter, got to 92-91 on a 3-pointer by Miller with 1:28 left. After McKie scored on a driving layup, Miller's layup with 24.9 seconds left cut it to 94-93.
Snow made two free throws, giving the Sixers a 96-93 lead. But McGrady made a pair to cut Orlando's deficit to one. After Snow hit two more free throws, McGrady nailed the game-tying 3.
Iverson shot just 8-for-22, but added seven rebounds.
Orlando, already without Grant Hill (ankle injury), didn't have forward Shawn Kemp for the third straight game. Kemp missed two games after he was suspended without pay Tuesday for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy for the third time. He was reinstated Friday, but wasn't able to join the team in time to play. Kemp is expected to return for Sunday's game in Toronto.
The Sixers took their biggest lead, 49-37, following a 15-5 run in the second quarter. Snow began the spurt with a turnaround jumper, and added a 3-pointer _ his third in 20 attempts this season _ that made it 43-35. Iverson had a jumper and driving layup before Keith Van Horn capped the run with a layup.
Orlando then scored seven straight, sparked by a 3-pointer from Miller. A free throw by Jacque Vaughn got the Magic to 51-47 at halftime.
The Sixers outrebounded Orlando 49-29.

Allen Iverson wasn't around during the final minutes, so Eric Snow picked up the slack for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Snow scored 25 points and made seven free throws in the final minute as the 76ers withstood Iverson's foul trouble to win their season-high ninth consecutive game, 100-94 over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night.
''Eric played great, and he was exhausted,'' Philadelphia coach Larry Brown said. ''He missed a big jumper and came right back and knocked one in when we really needed it, so he did a lot of good things.''
Snow went 17-for-19 from the line, and the 76ers went 36-for-46 to move to three games of New Jersey for the Atlantic Division lead. The Nets lost to Utah.
''We missed some shots, but we got the stops and rebounds when we needed it and were able to keep the lead, even when Allen was in foul trouble for most of the game and eventually fouled out,'' said Snow, who fell one point short of his career high. ''That made it interesting.''
Iverson scored 17 points -- 10.2 below his average -- before fouling out with 5:49 to play. He missed 11 of his 16 shots from the field and played just 29 minutes.
''It was frustrating, but all I care about is getting out of Denver,'' Iverson said. ''Getting away from here, away from those referees with a win.''
Juwan Howard scored 25 points to lead the Nuggets, who lost their 12th in a row.
''We just went toe-to-toe with one of the hottest teams in the league and came up a little short,'' Denver coach Jeff Bzdelik said. ''We had an opportunity and let it slip away.''
Iverson made his only basket of the fourth quarter with 8:18 left, and when he fouled out the 76ers were leading 88-78. Denver took advantage, and Vincent Yarbrough followed Shammond Williams' 3-pointer with one of his own to narrow the gap to 92-88 with 2:45 left.
''I think it helped me that they made some 3-pointers,'' Snow said. ''That keeps you mentally in the game.''
Snow put the Sixers up 96-91 with a free throw, following a delay-of-game technical, and he made one of two after being fouled. Howard's 3-pointer got Denver to 96-94, and the Nuggets still had a chance to tie when Derrick Coleman hit only one free throw. But Howard's pass to Williams hit the sideline with 18 seconds left, and Snow sealed the victory with two more free throws.
''We fell apart in the last two minutes when things didn't go well,'' Williams said.
The Sixers extended their six-point halftime lead to 81-68 in the third quarter, and Iverson sat out much of the period after picking up his fifth foul with 6:40 left. Snow picked up the slack, scoring eight points, while Brian Skinner and Greg Buckner had a basket each in the final 1:08.
Philadelphia played most of the second quarter without Iverson, who was rested the first three minutes of the quarter and sat out the final 2:41 after picking up three offensive fouls. Snow converted four free throws and a jumper, and Efthimios Rentzias hit a 3-pointer in the final five seconds to put the Sixers ahead 53-47 at halftime.
Game notes
Four of Iverson's fouls came on charging calls. ... Philadelphia's Keith Van Horn was held out with a stomach virus. ... Iverson was cheered after each made shot and free throw. ... The Sixers have scored at least 100 points in six consecutive games. ... The losing streak is Denver's longest since a 16-game skid from Feb. 2 to March 10, 1998. ... Ryan Bowen missed his second game because of a stomach muscle contusion.

The Charlotte Hornets put the Philadelphia 76ers away with a timely switch to a zone defense.
After blowing a 19-point lead, Charlotte went to a zone defense that stopped a Philadelphia spurt and helped lift the Hornets to a 94-85 victory Wednesday night.
"It got them out of their rhythm when they were making their charge," Hornets coach Paul Silas said.
Lee Nailon had a career-high 27 points, Baron Davis added 19 points, P.J. Brown had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Elden Campbell had 12 points and 10 rebounds and David Wesley also had 12 points for the Hornets, who snapped a two-game losing streak.
Allen Iverson led Philadelphia with 38 points on 13-of-30 shooting. Aaron McKie had 17 points and Derrick Coleman and Dikembe Mutombo each grabbed 12 rebounds for the 76ers, who had a two-game winning streak snapped and have lost eight of their last 10.
"We weren't getting stops so they could play zone," Iverson said. "Guys are not attacking, not taking the ball to the basket."
A jumper by Wesley as the shot clock buzzer sounded gave the Hornets a 90-84 lead with 1:09 left in the game. On the ensuing possession by Philadelphia, Campbell blocked a runner floater by Iverson, leading to layup by Nailon to put the game away.
After a fast-break dunk by Nailon gave Charlotte a 79-68 lead early in the fourth quarter, the 76ers scored 10 straight, including eight by Iverson to close to 79-78 with 7:21 left. The Hornets then scored the next five, including two on free throws after Mutombo and Iverson were whistled for technicals during the same play, to go ahead 84-78 with 6:15 remaining.
The Hornets broke open a 64-64 tie in the third quarter by scoring 13 of the last 17 points of the quarter, with Nailon making three baskets in the final minute as Charlotte took a 77-68 lead. Charlotte's zone defense allowed the Sixers to making just three baskets in the final seven minutes of the quarter.
"(The zone) really worked well," Wesley said. "We got them to stand around and take jump shots and when they did try to drive the lane we closed up the middle."
The first half consisted of two very different quarters. Charlotte outscored the Sixers 38-21 in the first quarter, thanks to 59 percent shooting (17-of-29) and a 16-6 rebounding advantage.
Philadelphia came back strong in the second quarter, rebounding from a 19-point deficit and scoring 26 of the last 35 points of the half to pull to 55-53 at halftime. Iverson had 13 points and was 4-of-7 from the field in the quarter.
